Cathelicidin production, an anti-microbial compound, has been shown to be affected by vitamin D intake. Cathelicidin, which resides in cells, responds to a hormone 12,5-D, the vitamins active form. Vitamin D circulates in the blood stream as a prehormone until it is needed. Vitamin D boosts the production of cathelicidin, an important enemy of bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Several months ago we reported on studies showing the importance Vitamin D as an enemy of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Now new studies are pointing to vitamin D as an enemy of cancer. In this study a stronger version of vitamin D, D3 or cholecalciferol, was used. This form of vitamin D is similar to the one our skin produces when exposed to the sun’s ultra violet rays.

The goals may be different, body shape vs. body weight, but the behavior is the same. Binge eating followed by purging, and reducing the food intake to the point of starvation or anorexia is now found to be much more widespread in men than previously thought. This behavior long associated with women is now effecting more and more men.
